Day 1 - St. John's
Arrive St. John's and pick up your rental car and explore the oldest city in North America. This historical, vibrant city has many attractions with the added bonus of a wide selection of restaurants from fine dining to traditional Newfoundland cuisine. This evening enjoy the Dinner Theatre in St. John's which comes highly recommended - experience an evening of hilarious wit, musical talent, character interaction and sumptuous food! Overnight St. John's.
Day 2 - St. John's
This morning enjoy a city tour of St. John's - highlights include Quidi Vidi Village, Government House, and Signal Hill to name a few! Other sightseeing suggestions include visiting the new Johnson's GEO Centre, the St. John's Botanical Gardens, the Newman Wine Vaults or maybe taking a gentle stroll along sections of the Grand Concourse, which comprises of 40 km (25 miles) of spectacular trails and walkways within St. John's, taking in the sights of Signal Hill, Quidi Vidi Lake and Rennies River. Overnight St. John's.
Day 3 - St. John's/Avalon Peninsula
Depart St. John's along the Irish Loop to the scenic Avalon Peninsula, home to over 5500 woodland caribou. En route visit Cape Spear - the most easterly point in North America. Continue on to Bay Bulls where you will enjoy a around the Witless Bay Ecological Reserve, a protective sanctuary for kittiwakes, murres, puffins and other seabirds. The waters off Bay Bulls are home to the world's largest population of humpback whales. Continue along the south shore via Ferryland and if time permits visit the fascinating Colony of Avalon Archeological site before driving on to Mount Carmel.
Day 4 - Avalon Peninsula/Fortune/St. Pierre
Depart Mount Carmel and drive to the Burin Peninsula and onto to Fortune ferry terminal, where you will park your vehicle. On arrival in Fortune take the 1.5 hour ferry crossing over to St. Pierre. St Pierre and Miquelon are the French owned Islands, 15 miles south of Newfoundland. St Pierre, a lively harbour town, is the largest town in the Isles and its streets are flanked by colourful houses, pastry shops and restaurants. Miquelon is the largest of the Islands and can be reached by boat from St. Pierre. The Island houses 700 people of mostly Acadian and Basque decent. On arrival spend the remainder of the day exploring at leisure discovering the delightful town of St. Pierre. Places to visit include the Pointe aux Canons Lighthouse, the Arche Museum and the Place du General de Gaulle on the waterfront. Overnight St. Pierre.
Day 5 - St. Pierre
Explore this car free Island further by foot or rented bicycle or take the 70-minute boat over to Miquelon (payable locally). This Island has a rich and diverse landscape, visit the Notre Dame des Ardilliers church with pillars made from masts of a shipwreck. Also visit Grand Barachois to the south, which is a protected laguna - home to many bird species and seals. Overnight St. Pierre.
Day 6 - St. Pierre/Fortune/Trinity
Depart St. Pierre on the afternoon ferry back to Fortune, Newfoundland. From Fortune continue on your journey to the Cultural capital of Newfoundland - Trinity. Trinity is renown for its unique historical architecture including the Ryan Store, Hiscock House and the Blacksmith Museum to name a few and also plays host to the famous New Founde Lande Trinity Pageant performed by the Rising Tide Theatre Company. Overnight Trinity.
Day 7 - Trinity
Today explore the region further - The Bonavista Bay is an area of extreme natural beauty and where the movie 'The Shipping News' and the widely acclaimed TV series 'Random Passage' were filmed. Visit the nearby Cape Random film set, constructed in 2000, the site offers visitors the opportunity to step back in time and imagine the life of our forbearers in a typical fishing community in the early 1800's. In the afternoon drive the remainder of the Bonavista Peninsula and take time to visit the community of Bonavista. Highlights include visiting Cape Bonavista Lighthouse, the historic Ryan Premises and the replica ship 'the Matthew'. Return back to Trinity. Overnight Trinity.
Day 8 - Trinity/St. John's
Depart Trinity and take a leisurely drive back to St. John's ready for your onward journey.
