In addition to Mountains over 1,600 metres high, the fjords that slash into them for miles make for a dramatic landscape. Polar Bears and Black Bears both patrol the territory and icebergs parade south from Greenland. The Torngat Mountains Base Camp will be your home for this 7 night adventure. Your days will be filled with unforgettable excursions using marine longliners to access the park. Excursions include Hiking, speed boat trip and fishing for arctic char to name a few! Meals will feature local foods and the entire trip will be an exploration of local traditional culture as much as the landscape. This tour is truly a once in a lifetime authentic experience not to be missed!

Parks Canada will provide an orientation about the National Park as well as guidelines and rules that are required for safe and sensitive enjoyment of the land.

Objectives:

  • Introduce clients to the beauty of nature while minimizing the impact.
  • Include culture and history as an integral part of the tour.
  • Deliver truly authentic culture and experience.
  • Increase awareness of this truly pristine area of our province.
  • Raise the profile of Canada's newest additions to the National Park System.

Authentic local culture will be as an important a part of the tour as well as the spectacular scenery. Clients remark as much on the people as they do on the activities and scenery. This would be achieved through daily interaction with as many local residents as possible. We offer guests the opportunity to try traditional foods but we always insist on an environmentally sensitive approach to experiencing different foods. Our policy is that clients are not involved in the hunting of food such as fish, birds, caribou etc. As a result of their sensitivity to the environment, clients are in total agreement with our rules against pursuing whales, disturbing animals, picking plants, disturbing archeological sites or any other potential impact.

Itinerary Highlights:

  • Hebron - In addition to the local culture of the town the highlight will be the remains of the Moravian church which is presently being preserved.
  • Ramah - No trip to the Torngats would be complete without an overnight trip to Ramah and a hike up to see the source of the famous chert which has been found in many locations in eastern North America. A side trip up Little Ramah Bay for birdwatching would fill the day. Hike to nearby waters to fish for Arctic Char, and have the chef cook your fresh catch for dinner.
  • Saglek - Exploration up North Arm Fjord. Visit to Rose Island and interpretation of the geology of the ancient rocks in the area will be highlights. Archaeologists have uncovered the homes of Inuit, and their predecessors, who hunted and fished the waters of the fiord for at least 5000 years.
