Grand Manan and White Head Islands are perfect vacation destinations for those seeking a refuge from the crowds of many popular destinations. Grand Manan Island lies a mere 11 km (6 miles) from the closest landfall (Campobello Island and the easternmost point of Maine) and is served year-round by a 64 car ferry making multiple trips daily from Blacks Harbour, New Brunswick.
Experience for yourself what has historically attracted famous painters (John James Audubon), crafts people (Erica Deichmann Gregg), and the Pulitzer Prize winning author Willa Cather to these shores and continues to attract nature lovers, artists, photographers, geologists and hikers today. Discover lighthouses, beaches, soaring cliffs, colourful fishing boats, wildflowers, whales and seabirds. Nutrient-rich waters of the Bay of Fundy, kept mixed by the famous Fundy tides, give us the best whale and seabird watching in New Brunswick.
Take a tour of the lighthouses, hike the many island trails, bring your kayak and bike, or opt for convenient rentals. Wander the shorelines beachcombing or visit the busy local fishing wharves or try our local delicacies. Visit local museums and marine research station. Hop aboard a tour boat and spot puffins, porpoises and a wide array of whales and other seabirds. From spring nesting to fall migration bird watchers will reach for their binoculars with delight. Discover this pleasant blend of active fishing communities and the beauty and serenity of nature at its best. A natural wonder in the centre of Canada’s Bay of Fundy.

Today you will depart Blacks Harbour which is located on the Fundy Trail and take a ferry over to Grand Manan Island. Tour your surroundings and discover lighthouses, beaches, soaring cliffs, colorful fishing boats, wildflowers, whales and seabirds. Nutrient-rich waters of the Bay of Fundy, kept mixed by the famous Fundy tides, give us the best whale and seabird watching in New Brunswick. You can hike the many island trails, kayak and bike. Visit the local museums and marine research station.
This morning you will enjoy a Nature Tour. The waters that surround Grand Manan Island are the best place in New Brunswick to see whales. Finback, Humpback, Minke and the endangered North Atlantic right whales are all common sightings. You will thrill at the sight of a whale’s tail slipping silently into the deep or a mother whale with her baby by her side. A Marine biologist and educator will lead the discussions on whales and will give you the chance to examine baleen and skin samples. Birdwatchers will be thrilled with all the seabird sightings. Sharks, seals, strange looking fish and breathtaking coastal scenery abound. This evening kick up your heels, relax in peace and quiet, enjoy scenic lookouts, spectacular sunrises and sunsets, and have a tasty bit to eat before starting the next adventure.
Today you can take the local ferry to White Head Island, here a small number of families, primarily fishers, have lived for two hundred years. This island is unique in many ways, with quiet coves, ideal overviews of weir fishing operations, plus flora and fauna not seen on the main island. Stop at Gull Cove and walk in the footsteps of James John Audubon who made a stop here in May 1833 to paint the herring gull. A lighthouse can be found at Long Point overlooking Sandy Cove. Return back to Grand Manan Island and enjoy your last night of rest and relaxation on this island.
This morning you will take the ferry back to Black’s Harbour and get ready for your onward journey.
